Life Care therapists attend workshop
Therapists from the Life Care Center of Kona attended a training and certification workshop for the BIG component of the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment in November.
Physical therapist Jenny Tuccitto led the training, certifying Jennifer Hulen, rehab services manager and physical therapist; Jo Morrison, occupational therapist; and Pomaikai Anduha, physical therapist assistant.
The BIG program addresses movement and self-care abilities, primarily for individuals with Parkinson’s disease, but also for those with multiple sclerosis, multiple-system atrophy or cerebral vascular accidents.

Real estate agents help out Habitat
Hale Ohana Aloha is a real estate agent-based program committed to provide kitchen packages for all Habitat for Humanity homes built on the Big Island in 2013.
Some of the basic kitchen essentials on the donation list are coffee mugs, plastic or nonbreakable glasses, juice glasses, water glasses, canister sets, serving utensils, eating utensils, cooking utensils, mixing bowl sets, sets of dishes, measuring cups/spoons, pots and pans, can openers, vegetable peelers, coffee makers, toasters, roasting pans, casserole dishes, bakeware sets, rice cookers and cutting boards.

Shigeoka heads
United operations
United Airlines has announced the promotion of Reid M. Shigeoka to general manager of the Kona and Hilo United operations. Shigeoka was supervisor of the Hilo station since it opened in 2011.
A Hilo native and a Waiakea High graduate, Shigeoka holds a bachelor’s degree in Japanese language and literature from the University of Hawaii. A 16-year veteran with United/Continental, Shigeoka started with Continental Airlines in New Haven, Conn., followed to become a certified training coordinator and shortly after accepted a promotion to Honolulu. He later was tapped to open and run the Continental station in Maui and then as a supervisor in Newark, N.J. Prior to coming to open the station in Hilo, he was transportation and safety manager for Chelsea, a division of Continental.
